Welcome – Classmates were welcomed and thanked for taking time to plan our 50th Celebration.
June Minutes were reviewed and approved by consensus
Auction Items: Gregory Mial bought the hand crafted items crafted and donated by George Bailey for a silent auction fundraiser. George has also volunteered to donate $100 is we receive a minimum of $300 for the four (4) he made – two free standing (2) Galilean thermometers in hand carved hard wood frame and two knives (curved blade & 8” Chef) in hand carved hard wood holders. Thanks George. Items will be photographed and posted to the blog and Facebook group page to receive bids. Starting bids are $50.
Celebration event date/format – Tomlinson reported that the Alumni Association is still deciding if the 2018 Saturday Alumni Dinner Dance will be the Saturday before Wed., July 4, 2018 or the Saturday following July 4. The 1968 class 50th celebration will coincide with the Alumni weekend so that classmates, especially those out-of-town, can enjoy both reunion activities during only one trip.
Following extended discussion of the type of celebration event – brunch, lunch or evening dinner dance, Corbett suggested that we poll classmates for feedback and that we bring thoughtful ideas to the next meeting. He reiterated that the event must require limited physical activity from the Raleigh group so that they too can enjoy the activities.
Celebration programming – Committee volunteers needed.
Celebration souvenirs - Carolyn Ratliff and Helen Montague will coordinate this effort by suggesting some appropriate items and costs.
Alumni Association annual dues disbursement: Class confirmed that the treasurer, Esther Delany, will forward an $80 check to the Alumni Association for annual class dues and reimburse Geneva Rogers Hill $40 that she has paid. Geneva sent a written report that included the Washington Alumni Association activities planned for the Labor Day, September weekend. They are requesting the support of Ligon alums; dinner/dance $45 per person and cookout $25. Deadline to purchase tickets in Sat., August 19th.
New Business
Gwendolyn Robertson Horton suggested that we take a photograph for a Carolinian article. Toney Bethea took several pics. Helen Montague & Gregory Mial shared classmate contact information and agreed to contact them regarding August meeting. Tomlinson and others want to update to current list and phone or mail a postcard to each person on the list to invite their participation.
