Class of 68 Meeting
Saturday June 17, 2017
The meeting opened at 3 PM with Michael
Corbett and Toney Bethea presiding .
Toney Welcomed class members and provided
updates:
1. Location Friday night July 2018:
a. Michael reported that since The Blue Martini (Gwendolyn’s) has paid memberships,
the club is always open to members; we would be unable to have a private
activity.
b. Michael also thought that if half the class participates, we could rent a
nice place for $3500 or less including food & entertainment.
c. Janet provided notes from Carolyn Lee Bray re: the Westing Event Center (www.westing.org) on Raleigh Blvd between
Crabtree Blvd and Yonkers, near the former Westinghouse plant location. Center
details:
i.
$400 for 8 hours normally $175 per
hour
ii.
Center provides chairs and tables,
but no set-up, break down or decoration; dance floor & DJ & PA systems
provided
iii.
Site has liquor license & all sales
from Cash Bar are the Center’s
iv.
We can use the caterer of our choice
v.
A tour of facility can be arranged
d. Janet contacted Lea Community Center, Poole RD, behind Lea Funereal Home
i.
Event must end no later than by 10 PM
(this would work for an evening event).
e. Toney checked St. Aug., two rooms would work for our event.
i.
Martin Luther King Complex Ballroom
rents for a day & accommodates 200 plus
ii.
Art Facility holds 75 people
iii.
Must use St. Aug catering
iv.
Liquor license, but must have a bar
tender; we can’t pour our own
v.
We must complete an application to
proceed with St. Aug. After approved, we
contact caterer for cost based on menu and head count. At this time we are thinking heavy hors
d’oeuvres
f.
Fabette suggested the Shriner’s
Center in Garner
i.
Clarence will checked the Shriner’s
Center
g. Michael also mentioned Doreatha Dix, but was not sure they still rent
it. The last time we used it we had to
do all the work and the bathrooms were outside but enclosed.
h. Fabette suggested that we consider a 50th Celebration Saturday
brunch rather than a Friday night event
2. Janet suggested, via forwarded notes, that some classmates’ adult
daughters are professional event planners & could provide quotes for
planning the details
a. Toney said that his daughter is not a professional event planner, but she
plans events
b. Toney and Michael reviewed the financial statement from the Treasurer,
Esther Delany
3. Geneva gave her Alumni Association report
a. The 39th Ligon Alumni Association Reunion Fri., June 20 – July
2: $80.00 per person presale and $100.00
at the door. Friday, 6 PM – midnight,
hospitality room w/refreshments ($15 if Friday n). If attending the night
only); Saturday, banquet & dance , 8 PM – 1 PM, dinner served 8:30 PM –
10:30 PM; Lo-k-Shun band providing music;
Sunday cookout, Roberts Park, 3-7
PM w/food served 4 PM-6 PM; if cookout only,
the cost is adults 25, kids under 12. $15.00.
b. Location: Marriott Crabtree - rooms
available for $150.00 night.
c. Cash bar

Geneva
is the class representative and dues are $120.00 per year
1.
The
class mates voted to pay from the treasury the $120.00 Alumni Association dues; Geneva will
be reimbursed for payments made toward this amount.
2.
Carolyn
has been going to the alumni event and the Class of 68 never endorsed $100
scholarship.
4. Class assessment is $100.00 now; this could change based on support and
costs.
5. Rosalyn suggested that we could change our date other than the Alumni
Event weekend.
a. Rosalyn also had a copy of the names from the graduation program so that
we can identify or find everyone. Asked
if everyone would commit to finding 2 people on the list.
6. Discussed a keepsake; items mentioned included a picture, DVD, t-shirts,
mug and visors.
7. Suggested that we meet on a regularly, maybe monthly. The same place and time, Richard B. Harrison
library at 3:00 pm Saturday, are recommended.
8. Michael asked if anyone would like to get tickets for the Alumni Event
from Geneva.
9. Michael adjourned the meeting at 4:15 PM
