Class of 68 Meeting
Saturday June 17, 2017
The meeting opened at 3 PM with Michael Corbett and Toney Bethea presiding .
Toney Welcomed class members and provided updates:
1.      Location Friday night July 2018:
a.      Michael reported that since The Blue Martini (Gwendolyn’s) has paid memberships, the club is always open to members; we would be unable to have a private activity.
b.      Michael also thought that if half the class participates, we could rent a nice place for $3500 or less including food & entertainment.
c.       Janet provided notes from Carolyn Lee Bray re: the Westing Event Center (www.westing.org) on Raleigh Blvd between Crabtree Blvd and Yonkers, near the former Westinghouse plant location. Center details:
                                                              i.      $400 for 8 hours normally $175 per hour
ii.      Center provides chairs and tables, but no set-up, break down or decoration; dance floor & DJ & PA systems provided
iii.      Site has liquor license & all sales from Cash Bar are the Center’s
iv.      We can use the caterer of our choice
                                                            v.      A tour of facility can be arranged
d.      Janet contacted Lea Community Center, Poole RD, behind Lea Funereal Home
                                                              i.      Event must end no later than by 10 PM (this would work for an evening event).
e.      Toney checked St. Aug., two rooms would work for our event.
                                                              i.      Martin Luther King Complex Ballroom rents for a day & accommodates 200 plus
ii.      Art Facility holds 75 people
iii.      Must use St. Aug catering
iv.      Liquor license, but must have a bar tender; we can’t pour our own
                                                            v.      We must complete an application to proceed with St. Aug.  After approved, we contact caterer for cost based on menu and head count.  At this time we are thinking heavy hors d’oeuvres

                                                              i.      Clarence will checked the Shriner’s Center
g.      Michael also mentioned Doreatha Dix, but was not sure they still rent it.  The last time we used it we had to do all the work and the bathrooms were outside but enclosed.
h.      Fabette suggested that we consider a 50th Celebration Saturday brunch rather than a Friday night event
