Reports/Updates:
Raffle - Bethea – reported on the raffle tickets and described the process for receiving and reporting; also suggested how to engage absent members.
Alumni Association – Rogers Hill – reported that she has attended two (2) J. W. Ligon Jr. Sr. High School Alumni Association; the dues is $120/annually or $10 per month.  Dues can be paid by class or individual.  If two class representatives participate, the dues can be evenly divided or $60 each. She quoted the minutes that the purpose of dues is to cover the cost of social activities for the Board and to purchase supplies. The treasury balance: [$9439.58 ($2632-scholarship; $4025-Dues; & $2782.58-gen fund).  The 2017 Alumni Celebration weekend is the weekend before July 4th, Fri., June 30th – Sun., July 2nd. Marriott lodging rate is $139 $115/night, ID JWLigon Alumni Reunion for this group rate (correction).

Consensus Decisions:
·         The Raffle Drawing will be Sat., March 4, between 11 AM and 1 PM. @12 noon.  (correction)
·         Each class member will sell (donate) 30 one dollar ($1) tickets
·         The raffle prize is $68 cash
·         Another fund raiser will be planned for later that will include a silent auction
·         Table decisions regarding dues for the JW Ligon Alumni Association
·         Members may donate $30 rather than sell raffle tics & enter raffle if they like (Many present pd $30 during meeting)

Action Items:
·         Donation of 2 hand-made items (hour glass and/or thermometer) for silent audition during an event – George Bailey volunteered to donate these hand-made items
·         Contact Janet Howard @919.274.4874 to schedule raffle ticket pick up.- Raleigh class members
·         Mail before Sat., March 4 raffle sale money order & stubs to our treasurer Esther Delany, 620 Delany DR, Raleigh, NC 27610  OR bring on March 4 to Richard B. Harrison Library mtg room, 10:30 AM – 12 noon, drawing time .  Out of town class members may donate or enter raffle by mailing donation.  - All class members
·         Raffle ticket monies & unsold tics just be submitted to later than Sat., March 4, 10:30 AM – noon. - All class members

22nd African American Celebration: A Special Tribute to Cash Michaels, March 3 and 4, 2017

The 22nd African American Celebration: A Special Tribute to Cash Michaels, “Reflections of a Journalist's Life” produced by the Town of Cary in partnership with The Ujima Group, Inc.

Friday, March 3, and Saturday, March 4, starting at 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.  The venue for the event is The Cary Theater at 122 East Chatham Street, Cary, NC 27511Refreshments will be served in the lobby from 6:15 p.m. until 6:45 p.m., and the program starts at 7:00 p.m. on both nights.

Friday, March 3rd, a compilation of Cash Michaels video productions, followed by a panel discussion of "The Role of Journalism in Social Activism" featuring special guest panelist speakers.

March 4th, an "up-close, in-depth reflective interview" of Cash Michaels and his journalistic career, followed by the evening’s entertainment from the award-winning superstar jazz musician and vocal stylist singer, Eve Cornelious.

Cash Michaels is an award-winning contributing writer for The Winston-Salem Chronicle, and The Carolina Peacemaker in Greensboro. Michaels also serves as staff writer and award-winning columnist for The Wilmington Journal Newspaper in Wilmington, NC and has been a contributing writer to The Amsterdam News in New York.  Many of his stories are also carried across the nation via the 200-member National Newspaper Publishers Association.  Mr. Michaels is also a weekly news commentator for 680 WPTF-AM in Raleigh. Since January 2008, Michaels has served as a regular panelist on WRAL-TV’s “NC Spin,” the weekly public affairs program that airs statewide.  Michaels is happily married to his wife of 15 years, Markita, and they have two exceptional daughters, Tiffany and KaLa.
